The Giving Hand has officially launched: TGH Opportunity Scholarships!
About TGH Opportunity Scholarships
Studies have shown that minority students majoring in the STEM fields leave those disciplines in disproportionate numbers, so we, at The Giving Hand, have set out to change that. The mission of this program is to encourage underrepresented women and minorities (such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans/Alaskan Natives, and Asian Pacific Islanders) to major in and pursue careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The TGH Opportunity Scholarship grants first year and transfer students with $5,000 of financial aid for their first year of undergraduate studies at an accredited four-year university in California. This program recognizes both merit and financial need because college should never be just a dream, no matter who you are.
Books Scholarship
The cost of books has significantly increased over the years and financial aid doesn't always cover a student's financial demands. So The Giving Hand is granting book scholarships to academically excellent individuals that can't afford these basic school necessities.

The costs of tuition, housing, transportation, and school supplies may thwart capable and highly motivated students from pursuing any majors in STEM. According to a study from the National Science Board, African Americans and Latinos comprised only 4-6% of the entire STEM workforce.

Freshman Opportunity Scholarship
This scholarship is for academically excellent first year underrepresented minority students that have been accepted into an accredited four-year university in the United States of America. All applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.4 and a combined GPA of 3.7 in all scientific courses, as well as, a minimum 22 ACT or 1040 combined SAT.
Transfer Opportunity Scholarship
The Transfer Opportunity Scholarship is for underrepresented minorities that excelled as STEM majors at community colleges and are transferring into an accredited four year university within the United States. Qualified applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Books Scholarship
All applicants must be full-time students, currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university in the United States of America. All applicants must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA in order to qualify for the books scholarship.
